graphs not displaying after migrating from 32 bit to 64 bit

Post by luniversity »

I'm taking over administration of our Nagios XI server from another administrator and I'm having issues with graphs not displaying. Our previous admin recently built a new Nagios XI server running on a VM, RHEL 6, 64 bit. He installed Nagios XI 2012R1.2.

The old Nagios server was built on the CentOS VM (32-bit), not sure what the previous version of Nagios XI was. I know that the previous admin migrated rdd files because we wanted to maintain that history. However, the /var/log/error_log shows the following error when trying to load graphs:
ERROR: This RRD was created on another architecture
As you may have guessed, I'm new to Nagios and am trying to get up to speed. I believe I've found the problem (32-bit vs 64-bit) but I was hoping to get help resolving this particular issue as quickly as possible. I am currently sifting through the support forums but as of yet I've had no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Got it, and thank you. One more question.

I believe the previous admin simply copied the rdd files from the old system, I assume these need to be deleted on the new system prior to the restore?

RRD files are binary files, so they have to be rebuilt when moving from 32 to 64 bit. If you don't need the old performance data, new RRD's will just be generated when check results get received.

That did the trick. My graphs are displaying properly now. Unfortunately, the system had remained in this state since the beginning of November. So, obviously, when I replaced the rrd files I lost the data between Nov and today. now, for future reference, I need to find out if there is away to append data rather than replace it. Thanks for help. I suspect I'll be asking for much more until I get up to speed.

There is a way to migrate the data, take a look at this Wiki:
