Nagios xi Migration

Post by hqin »

Hi,
We purchased and installed Nagios xi about nine years ago. The version is 2011R3.2. OS is RHEL 6.10 on a physical machine. Now we plan to migrate to a VMWare VM with RHEL 7 and upgrade Nagios xi to the latest version. I checked backup and restore document. It looks like the backup and restore tools only support same version of Nagios xi. Could you let me know what the correct way is for us to migrate it? BTW, from web interface, when I clicked on "check for updates now", it shows me the latest available version is 5.7.5. But as per document, it should also have a button "Upgrade to latest version". But our web UI doesn't show this button. Does that mean we have to upgrade some previous first before upgrading to the latest one?

Thanks

Hai

RHEL 6 is end of life so you'll need to migrate to EL7 or EL8, I would probably stick with EL7 for now for compatibility with 3rd party plugins/components/modules.

Given your system is so old, I would probably recommend that you do a Core migration instead since you cannot upgrade to the latest:

I'm testing something out though, will update shortly.

EDIT: I tried to upgrade from 2011R3.2 and it ran into a bunch of errors.

You can only backup and restore to the same xi version so you'd either need to upgrade the old first or upgrade the new one last which is why I'm recommending you do the core migration.

Is this a VM?

Is it running 32bit or 64bit?
