Migrating Nagios xi to a new server

Post by cwscribner »

Hi all.

Are there any particular guidelines in place for migrating xi to a completely new server or is it as simple as Install OS>Install xi>Backup xi> Move database?

You will also need to move all your perfdata to the new server as well, which is in the /usr/local/nagios/share/perfdata directory, any MIBs that you may have added, plugins, wizards, and custom mods.

To my knowledge, that should cover the bases.

Would the easiest method be to just tar and then untar /usr/local/nagios and /usr/local/nagiosxi or is there more located elsewhere?

Yeah, there's more. I would actually look at doing a fresh install of xi on the second machine, and then performing the restore procedure from a backup. OR, you could also import the configs to the new server. It depends on whether or not you want to preserve the historical information.
