You can download a free version that can monitor up to 7 hosts and 100 services. With a bit of knowledge of linux, it's easy to install.

Answer:
There is a whole bunch of documentation that is written up by Nagios. If you ever do wanna setup a free xi server in linux then this is a good document to follow.
