Creating Snapslhots/Images of OS's w/ Nagios xi

Post by disrael »

I work in a large corporate enviroment and we recently purchased Nagios xi. As we have certain standards in our VM farm, this prevents us from using the premade VM's that were published by Nagios. What we are planning on doing is creating a master image, testing it, then deploy it to a couple of data centers. Are there any issues in Nagios that would be created by doing something like this? Are there anything in Nagios that staticly write the host name as opposed to something like Localhost? I am guessing this should be a problem as you guys have VM images on your site, though my manager wanted me to ask, before we encounter any problems.

Thanks in advance!

There should be no problem with this as long as you make the master image BEFORE entering the license and activation.

We have 7 days left on our "Trail Version" . I heard from one of my coworkers that we can get an extentions. Though my manager asked if we use one of the licenses that we paid for, but yet to use, what exactly would prevent us from imaging it in the future? Would we have to replace a file or two to get it to work if we imaged the machine or what. He has some worries about using support and other issues that could result from not entering a license.

Once the trial runs out, an unlicensed copy will be severely crippled if you have more than 7 hosts on it.

You certainly could use one of the other licenses as long as you only have the amount of purchased production servers allowed in your license.
