Purpose
The purpose of this documentation is to provide a guide for using the Generic Plugin Monitoring Wizard.
Target Audience
This guide is directed towards Nagios xi administrators interested in configuring a host or service with a plugin that may or may not already have a wizard associated with it. The wizard can be used on all plugins.
Using the Wizard: Step 1
Step 1 provides the setup for the new command. There are three fields in Step 1, “Command Name”, “Command Line”, and “Available Plugins”. “Command Name” refers to the “command_name” field in the Nagios Core command object configuration. “Command Line” refers to the “command_line” field in the Nagios Core command object configuration. “Available Plugins” is a drop down with all available plugins that will simply display the help output of the plugin and will populate the “Command Line” field with the selected plugin.
Using the Wizard: Step 2
Step 2 is all about setting up your host or service. Step 2 has four fields. The first option is the “Host or Service” option. When “Host” is selected, there are “Host Name” and “Host Address” fields. When “Service” is selected, you get a drop-down labeled “Host Name” with a list of the available hosts and you get the “Service Description” field. The “Command Line” field is not actually a field and is just there to be used as reference for the “Check Command” field. “Check Command” refers to the “check_command” field in the Nagios Core host/service object configuration.
All Done
Submitting the wizard will create a new command and a new host/service.
