Issues/questions with version 2R1.0

Post by snapon_admin »

Official VM (CentOS 6.5 Final)

Figured I'd put together a list of issues or questions I have on the new update here. I will update the post as I come across more. So far this is what I have:

We're getting this message
This report runs on raw data. Your current start time (-24 hours) is longer than your raw data lifetime (-4w). You will only be seeing the last 4w of data.
on every report we run. Not sure what it means or how 24h is longer than 4w, unless I'm misinterpreting that. This message wasn't here before the upgrade, though, so just wondering what it is.

DNS names are working great, thank you so much for this! I do have a question on it, though. All of our graphs (the src <=> dst flow graphs, for example) show Host names, but the pie graph does not. Is this expected? Is there a way to get the pie graph to show host names as well?

We can't generate any PDFs, getting "Disallowed Key Characters." whenever we try. This is on anything that allows PDF creation, and tested in Chrome, Firefox, and IE.

Added AD authentication, created new AD user, can't login. Whenever I try to login using AD all I get is a blank white page.

Reset zoom is missing in the summary graphs as well.

This report runs on raw data. Your current start time (-24 hours) is longer than your raw data lifetime (-4w). You will only be seeing the last 4w of data.
This is a feature that was added.
- Added warning text on queries/reports when the begin date is longer than the raw data lifetime -JO

Check your sources to see what is the "raw data lifetime" set at. As the report runs on raw data, you won't be able to see anything "older" than the length of time you specified on each source.

Can you show us an example (screenshot)?

Run:

Code: Select all

tail -100 /var/log/httpd/error_log
and show us the output in code wraps.

All of them are 4 weeks or 24h. Here's a couple of screens:
4 weeks of raw data:

24h is longer than 4w?:
24h longer than 4w.png
Can you show us an example (screenshot)?
Not really, not without showing IPs and host names of our stuff. Best I can come up with to show what I'm talking about:
IPs and Host names.png
show us the output in code wraps.

Code: Select all

I've fixed the pie chart only showing IP addresses. The 4w might be a bug in the way we calculate it. I'll check into that also. As for the AD authentication, can your users use the name@domain to log in? That is what it is using to try to log into AD. If there is an problem logging in through AD that may be why it's showing a blank screen - I haven't encountered that when I was testing it against our AD users. Also, did you import the user or make it yourself?

A possible problem with the pdf gerneation is not having the dejavu fonts installed on the server. Can you verify that they are installed via yum?

Reset zoom is missing in the summary graphs as well.
Just hit "F5" to refresh the page.

Tried Name@Domain, still didn't work but this time said incorrect login instead of going to the white screen.
Also, did you import the user or make it yourself?
Tried both ways, neither worked.
Can you verify that they are installed via yum?
Pretty sure I saw them get installed during the upgrade, but how would I verify that? (see edit below)
Just hit "F5" to refresh the page.
Ok, that's a good workaround for now, thanks. Hopefully the reset zoom button will make a comeback, though, yeah?

Edit: Deja vu fonts appear to have been installed:

Re: Issues/questions with version 2R1.0

Update: AD integration miraculously works now for some reason. Didn't work on Friday when I left at 5, but it works now for some reason. I didn't change anything, but I just tried it on a whim 5 minutes ago and it's all good now. Only things not working and not already fixed are the PDF reports and the reset zoom function, which can be worked around for the time being.

I also think I'm going to head to tracker and put in a feature request for contact groups or some options to specify which sources certain contacts can see. I don't see an option for that atm, and with AD integration I already know we're going to get a lot more people interested in getting logins for this and they won't need to see all sources, just a handful.

Currently, there are only two "types" of users in NNA - "Admin" and "User". "Users" can see everything, except the config options and they can not edit anything except their own profile's password, contact info, and api key. Are you talking about adding "mulch-tenancy" functionality to NNA? Can you elaborate (or provide us with a link to the feature request in case you posted it already)? Thanks!

Haven't gotten around to the feature request yet, will probably do it tomorrow as I'm heading out the door atm, but what I'd be looking for is the ability to specify which sources certain users can view. Like how in XI users can view whatever hsots they're contacts for, only in this case it would simply be specifying that say, my Chicago admins can see the netflow sources at their site in Chicago, but not the 97 other sources we have in NNA.
