Nagios xi - RFE: enhance SNMP Trap Receiving

Post by fpernet »

Hi all,
This post is more to request an enhancement for Nagios xi.
As you know, in order to receive traps from outside we need to create a service for the host and then work in passive mode with this service.
Hovewer, if this is possible, it has a number of issues (which are not corrected AFAIK in Nagios xi).
- traps are coming, one after the other. On the GUI, only the last is displayed.
- we need to "reinitialize" the service to turn it back on OK and then be ready for the next trap
- no way to consult all the traps received (except from logs)

On the Open Source version, I use to use NagTrap which solve all these issues. It stores the trap in a mysql table. The plugin only displays the traps and let us validate them. The plugin turns red if any critical (or whatever) trap has not been validated. This plugin is then used as an active service under Nagios.

I would like to know if there is a plan to integrate NagTrap or any solution like that in order to be able to manage and display correctly the traps in such case.

Thx

fpernet,

There are no direct plans on integrating NagTrap, however we have been looking around for a better solution for traps, so your input is great, so I'll look into NagTrap.

I implemented NagTrap for OEM Traps, VMware traps, ... with the Open Source Nagios and with success ...
Thank you for your answer
