Problem Description
This KB article addresses the following NRPE error:
ERROR: Missing Argument Exception
Assumed Knowledge
The following KB article contains an explanation of how NRPE works and may need to be referenced to completely understand the problem and solution that is provided here:
NRPE - Agent and Plugin Explained
In addition to this, NSClient++ must be correctly installed and configured, please refer to the following KB article on enabling the NRPE listener in NSClient++:
Documentation - Enabling The NRPE Listener In NSClient++ 0.4.x
Troubleshooting The Error
This is usually due to clashing handler names (more than 1 of the same external alias name). Please refer to the following KB article for more information on this:
NRPE - UNKNOWN: No Handler For That Command
It can also be caused by an argument mismatch as well. Please refer to the following KB article which can help explain this problem:
NRPE - CHECK_NRPE: Received 0 Bytes From Daemon
Instead of editing the command directives in your nrpe.cfg file (which does not exist as this is a Windows remote host), edit the "[/settings/external scripts/alias]" section of the C:\Program Files\NSClient++\nsclient.ini file. Make sure your argument usage is consistent between the nsclient.ini and the Nagios xi service check.
