Nagios xi Support for Oracle Linux 7

Post by shoreypu »

Hello all,

I'd like to find out if Nagios xi will continue to run/support (ie. upgrades) on Oracle Linux 7 after June 30th, then it falls under extended support. Is that information available somewhere or do I need to contact Nagios Support?

Thanks in advance.

Hi @shoreypu,

We do not support our products on distributions that have reached EOL.

If you have any other questions, please let us know.

Thank you!

Hey shorepyu,

To add on to this - it looks like premier support for Oracle 7 ends December 2024, and extended support ends June 2028. We will have to have a discussion internally regarding when we will stop supporting this distribution. I will post back here when that decision has been made.

Best Regards,

Cory Norell

So I just received a notice today that EL7 is no longer going to be supported after the next release, 2024R1.1.5. I have to say, that does not provide much notice, especially when I asked about this four months ago.

Hi @shoreypu,

Apologies on the short notice, that was my miss in communication.

Aaron,

I think Nagios needs to strongly consider extending support to allow customers to upgrade in a timely manner.
As of now, we are waiting for on our systems team to support EL9. We didn't see the sense in migrating from EL7 to EL8.

Hi John,

Thanks for your reply.

Extended support for EL 7 was definitely one of the options we considered.

On EL 7 you can upgrade as far as Nagios xi 2024R1.1.5, which is a supported version, though if there were OS version specific issues, the team may recommend an OS upgrade/migration.

But not all issues are OS-related, so if you have any issues on 2024R1.1.5, you are welcome to post here or alternately open a ticket with support. The forum is officially community-based support, and while we do make an effort to have Nagios staffers be active here, it is always good to remember that you can get help from your Nagios CSM, or open a ticket with support. Support tickets have an official SLA, forum posts do not.

Lastly, if you don't have it, here is a link to a doc on OS migration best practices: https://answerhub.nagios.com/support/s/ ... -Nagios-xi .
