Hi
We have installed the Nagios xi 60Days trial. We would like to purchase it but now its in test phase. I have installed the linux virtual appliance. It works fine, but i have added several host and services, and the load now is always critical. (20-30).
Service Check Execution Time:0.22 / 61.97 / 16.156 sec
Service Check Latency:24.12 / 83.14 / 50.272 sec
Host Check Execution Time:0.04 / 17.22 / 5.551 sec
Host Check Latency:0.00 / 77.86 / 50.350 sec
# Active Host / Service Checks:48 / 121
# Passive Host / Service Checks:0 / 0
The server is in a virtual environment, the xi server has 2x xeon cpu’s and 2gb ram.
What can i do to reduce the load. The system is very slow now, and i need to add more hundreds of hosts and services.
Now its just monitors hots ping and packet loss, and snmp data from routers.
And the grapher is stopped working, we didnt set anyting at the server, but once i checked the performance graps everything was empty. The system sayd that his components are running. Server restart didnt help.
Regards
Robert

Re: Nagios xi server critical load.
What kind of check load are you running on this system? (How many hosts+services and how often are the checks?)
The graphing service has a threshold on the CPU load, where it will stop processing performance data once the CPU load hits 10.0.
Check to make sure you don't have corruption in your database, this will make the system almost unusable:

Here are some other docs on performance with xi.

Depending on how large your monitoring environment is, you may need to look at Distributed Monitoring options:

Re: Nagios xi server critical load.
Hi, Thanks for your answer. We are monitoring 48 hosts and 121 services, just ping, some nagios agent (win and linux) and snmp informations, every minute.
