Hi,
I use the Nagvis component and i added hosts on the map and afterwhile i modified those hosts' alias. The problem is that Nagvis do not get the update. I tryed to delete the hosts from the map to readd them but again the alias remain the old one.
Is there a way to force the update ?

Re: NAGVIS - Host alias update
If you rename a host in Nagios XI, you will receive an error in NagVis. However, if you go to "Edit current map" under "Actions" in NagVis, right-click on the host and select "Modify", you can edit the host name (just type in the new alias). Click "Save" and you are done. Go to "Actions" -> "View current map" and check your host status.
I tested it a few times and worked just fine every time. I am running Nagios XI 2011R1.5, manually installed on 32bits CentOS 5.6.
In my tests, renaming hosts was not an issue. However, I was not able to modify the services (and fix the error) in NagVis under this particular host name. I had to delete all of them and add them back to the map, using the new host alias. After this, everything worked fine. We will have to take a look at this issue.

Re: NAGVIS - Host alias update
I am talking about renaming the host but renaming its description which appears to be the alias in Nagvis. I tryed to modify the host in Nagvis, but it's not possible to modify the alias.
The point is that we use the Host's Name as its casual name to make it easy to identify it in NagiosXI, and we use its Description as its Reference Name (not sure if it's the good way to say it)
Let's take the NagiosXI server as example:
So is there a way to update the information into Nagvis ?

Re: NAGVIS - Host alias update
It seems like it is not possible to modify an alias in NagVis ver.1.5.9.
However, on the NagVis website: http://www.nagvis.org/ there is some information about the new version that is out - 1.6b1:
We will test it and see if it will fix the renaming / aliasing issue in NagVis.

A look at the backends: The check_command parameter is fetched by MKLivestatus and NDO backends now. The hostgroup and servicegroup aliases in the MKLivestatus and NDO backends have been fixed.
We will test it and see if it will fix the renaming / aliasing issue in NagVis.
