Yes, from the Nagios server I can ping the remote (over vpn) box, and I can SSH into it, SCP files, etc.

by otherside... I think we need IP addresses and network masks as well as routing tables.

Where do I need to put routing tables? I don't follow you.

I have put a route in /etc/rc.local and have added it to /etc/hosts too. So I can ping "customer1" and it will route perfectly.

What do I need to do??????

That's the most likely reason it's not working for you.

Please check with your Network Manager for these details, if you can't answer these questions then you'll need to get assistance configuring your network from someone who can. I recommend getting some one full-time as it's kinda a waste to monitor full-time and then contract out any repairs.

That is I'm sure it is simple enough to configure so pings work, but you'll need a solid grasp on how things are configured if you plan on monitoring them and I'll need a solid grasp so I can help you monitor them.

Please note to obfuscate any information you provide, I'll still need to differentiate Public VS Private so that's kinda difficult.

Ahh, find an example online that closely matches your configuration and reference it, noting any changes.

Configure a hardware VPN device to connect each network, there should be one at each location or at the very least the far end locations(seams odd to me to have one for each other office but not one for the Nagiosxi server, though it can be configured that way).

Follow the instructions provided by the vendor of the VPN to connect your networks together and report any problems you have accordingly.

Nagiosxi depends on your network being configured properly, even to use NRDP. Though our expertise is on monitoring networks, not setting them up or maintaining them ect.
