Hi,
I have successfully installed Nagios xi on a physical RHEL 5 server and we need to test monitoring from a different .However due to restrictions we dont have a server(both physical or virtual) ready yet to install the Nagios x=xi agent to test,we are very keen to test immediately
Is it possile to install the agent on the same monitoring server such that the monitoring server will be talking to itself ie monitoring in self .as we are very keen to test ..or will this conflict ?
Also in the agent installation document the are few similar scripts to be run as part of the installation process for both agent and server..these scripts are
./0-yum
./1-prereqs
./2-usersgroups
./3-services
./A-subcomponents
these have already been run as part of the installation of the monitoring server does it have to (if this setup is possible) do these scripts have to be run again
also with the configuration in iptables and xinetd that has to be done will these steps conflict or will they be neccessary. We dont want to risk corrupting our already installed (and running ) xi server
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Can I install Nagios xi and Agent on same machine

Re: Can I install Nagios xi and Agent on same machine
I can't say I've tried it, but I think it should be possible.
As for the installation scripts:
0-yum: Not necessary to re-run.
1-prereqs: Is necessary to run.
2-usersgroups: Not necessary to re-run.
3-services: Is necessary to run.
A-subcomponents: Not necessary to re-run.
4-firewall: Should not conflict. The line you need is actually already in the iptables file - you just need to uncomment it.
