Reasons to use Nagios xi

Post by tiredofme »

Hello,

I have several questions regarding Nagios xi and why my company should go with your product:

1) What improvements have been made to the ndomod db backend? Has it been optimized for performance vs the off the shelf version (1.49b)

2) Is there native WMI support for agentless checks?

3) Is webinject the only utility for synthetic transactions?

4) Is there a wizard on the web frontend for adding/managing multiple data sources for pnp graphs?

5) Other than eye candy, what advantages does Nagios xi confer over a standard core isntallation?

6) I have already built all of the functionality available in xi into my Nagios 3 core installation. Why should I switch?

7) How does your product stack up to Zenoss and Zabbix enterprise, aside from price differences?

Thanks!

Here are answers to your questions:

1. I believe there are some minor mods to the ndomod daemon and the MySQL tables. Most of those deal with indexes I think. The Nagios xi installer tarball includes the patches to ndoutils if there are any, so you can dig deeper if you'd like.

2. There is no native WMI support. There are some plugins/agents on Nagios Exchange that should allow you to do this, but we haven't written a configuration wizard to support this yet. Here's the Exchange URL: http://exchange.nagios.org/directory/Pl ... indows/WMI

3. Webinject is the only utility we include for synthentic transactions at the moment. Was there another one you were considering?

4. A PNP management UI has not yet been built. We will likely allow you to edit the PNP config files through the web UI in an upcoming release, but there probably won't be a "wizard" style interface, as the config files for PNP can be complex.

5. There are several advantages to Nagios xi that we've outlined in this PDF (http://assets.nagios.com/datasheets/nag ... atures.pdf) and on this page (http://www.nagios.com/products/nagiosxi/fornagiosadmins)

6. If you've already done work similar to Nagios xi, you might not need it!

7. We don't have comparison information together for Zenoss and Zabbix at the moment.

Best regards!
