nagios xi 1.5 Waiting for configuration verification

Post by jlee »

Hi,

We have a 32bit, VMware -2.6.18-238.12.1.el5 install of nagios xi 1.5

When adding an item just to monitor the ping it takes ages to add the item:

Configuration submitted for processing...
Waiting for configuration verification..................................................................................................................................................................

Why is this? I know the item is on the network and working OK.

When I was running Nagios xi 1.2, it did not have this prioblem

Thanks,
James

Also for a number of servers I am pinging. Why does the status say N/A?

I think I have fixed the problem.

At first I have nagiosxi looking at my switches and all its ports via snmp.

Once I removed monitoring on these ports, nagios xi seems to have speeded up, and everything seems normal now.

My question is: does nagios have a limit on the number of hosts/services that it can monitor before its starts having problems?

Thanks,
James

Yeah, the SNMP polling for switches and routers in particular is a much more substantial processor grab than a lot of the other checks. I generally recommend keeping a single xi instance to about 10000 checks or less for the sake of ideal usability, but we've come up with some recent docs that allow you to push an xi server a lot harder now, so we don't really know what the max number is on a fully tweaked system.
