Hi All,

After some problems with logging into Nagios xi Web (see this thread http://support.nagios.com/forum/viewtop ... f=6&t=1917), I ran some date/time related tests, and it appears as though the security module is unaware of timezones.

This is running on the pre-built CentOs 32bit Virtual Appliance, 2011R1.1 - downloaded from here: http://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nagi ... vmware.zip



If the Server time - ignoring the timezone (i.e. date and hours/minutes) is ahead of the Client, there are no problems

If the Client time - ignoring the timezone is <30 minutes ahead of the Server, there are no problems.

If the Client time - ignoring the timezone is >30 minutes ahead of the Server, the Client cannot log in (results in the "NSP: Sorry Dave, I can't let you do that" error).


So for example, if we have a Client at 17.00 GMT, and a Server at 13.00 EDT (i.e. both at 17.00 UTC), then we get rejected on all login attempts from that Client.

Is this a known problem, a mis-configuration of the Virtual Appliance, or a new defect?

Can it affect other aspects of the functionality or just web users accessing the GUI (I am having problems getting Agents to see the Server, or indeed, the Server to pick up monitoring details from the machines with Agents installed)?

Hello Damien,
this is a known problem but you provided an excellent write up of it. I believe it is not just the Web UI that can be impacted as several things would rely upon using the correct time (I just confirmed this with Development). We will be changing our documentation to reflect to check, and adjust if needed, time issues for the Nagios xi server.
