Hi the pnp service does not exist but the process was running, I have enabled the log and onrestarting the process I found that the pid file was owned by root ??, Chowned to nagios and restarted the process
nagios 7964 1 0 13:50 ? 00:00:00 /usr/local/nagios/bin/npcd -d -f /usr/local/nagios/etc/pnp/npcd.cfg
The data file now seems to be processed

Re: graphing has stopped
Hi the pnp does not have a service associated with it.
The pnp log shows the data being processed but graphs are still not being displayed
Regards, Dave

See Admin's post, http://support.nagios.com/forum/viewtop ... t=169#p683
There sure is a PNP service, what does "chkconfig --list pnp" show?
Now that the service is running for you, try resetting your credentials again.

Re: graphing has stopped
Hi The services are as follows,
ntpd 0:off 1:off 2:off 3:off 4:off 5:off 6:off
oddjobd 0:off 1:off 2:off 3:off 4:off 5:off 6:off
pcscd 0:off 1:off 2:on 3:on 4:on 5:on 6:off
portmap 0:off 1:off 2:off 3:on 4:on 5:on 6:off
postgresql 0:off 1:off 2:off 3:off 4:off 5:off 6:off
psacct 0:off 1:off 2:off 3:off 4:off 5:off 6:off
rawdevices 0:off 1:off 2:off 3:on 4:on 5:on 6:off
rdisc 0:off 1:off 2:off 3:off 4:off 5:off 6:off
As you can see there is no pnp service, how do I recreate the service please.
I have reset the nagiosadmin credentials, this does no appear to have had any effect, still no graphs
Cheers, Dave

Re: graphing has stopped
Hi,
Ran chkconfig --add npcd
got the following error
service npcd does not support chkconfig
Even with pnp running as follows /usr/local/nagios/bin/npcd -d -f /usr/local/nagios/etc/pnp/npcd.cfg
The graphs are not produced
The perf files are arriving as below
/usr/local/nagios/var/spool/checkresults
You have new mail in /var/spool/mail/nagios

Re: graphing has stopped
Well at least it didn't say "I can't find this service."
Run:
No point in being lazy about making sure it's stopped, you can optionally double check with any Unix foo you may posses.
Then add the System V(5) symbolic links for this service. There is no documentation as this is almost never done any more by hand at least. Basically you:
This ensures the daemon is started almost last and stopped almost first. 2, 3, 4, 5 are mapped to run levels when the system is up and 0, 1, 6 are for when this daemon should be stopped.
0 halts the box
6 reboots
1 is special maintenance mode where you can reformat file systems and do other software level tasks you can't do after a halt.
The others are subject to the users wish, 2 is usually non graphical terminal access only 3 might be the default and is graphical. The others are for you to use as you see fit.
Run:
Code: Select all
/etc/init.d/npcd stop
/etc/init.d/npcd stop
/etc/init.d/npcd stop
/etc/init.d/npcd start
Then add the System V(5) symbolic links for this service. There is no documentation as this is almost never done any more by hand at least. Basically you:
Code: Select all
ln -s /etc/init.d/npcd /etc/rc2.d/S99npcd
ln -s /etc/init.d/npcd /etc/rc3.d/S99npcd
ln -s /etc/init.d/npcd /etc/rc4.d/S99npcd
ln -s /etc/init.d/npcd /etc/rc5.d/S99npcd
ln -s /etc/init.d/npcd /etc/rc0.d/K00npcd
ln -s /etc/init.d/npcd /etc/rc1.d/K00npcd

Re: graphing has stopped
Hi The service is now created but the graphiing still is not being produced, when you click on graphs you just get the titles for the graphs but no atcual content, please give some incite into the process that creates the rrd files and the graphs so that I can work through it.

Re: graphing has stopped
dxf1,
Now that we got the service working and this is growing to 3 pages long, perhaps it's time for a new topic about the "next" problem you faced. However it occurs to me that something went wrong during the installation of NagiosXI, perhaps correcting that problem and then re-installing XI would be more fruitful then attempting to compensate for this past failure.
All I can say about the graphing is that we are using PNP http://docs.pnp4nagios.org/pnp-0.6/start
