Top Alert Producer graph displaying soft alerts

Post by Fred Kroeger »

Just checked the Top Alert Producers Last 24 hours graph in graph Explorer and noticed that one of the monitors showed 10 alerts.
Checking the Service History for this monitor, I do see 10 entries - however all of them are Soft - which explains why I never received any notifications.
Is this expected behaviour - as I would have assumed that ony Hard alerts would have been displayed in the "alert producers" graph ?

Just another thought on this, would you consider showing the number of warning & critical events in the graph rather than just the total (Red & Yellow bar)?

You can choose which items are displayed in this report at the top by selecting the "State Types", one of Hard, Soft, or Both

Hmm he is talking about the graph Explorer. I don't think we can choose soft or hard states there.
Imho the default should be hard?
Seems like a nice feature request though to make it a choice? http://tracker.nagios.com I'll +1 your fr... :)

graph Explorer - Top Alerts Tab does not give an option to select the State Type ? Where do you see this Scott?

So yes please - can you file an internal Feature Request for this. Also just thinking this through a bit further, the OK events are also Hard, so if we display just the Hard alerts, then the graph will show double - the warning/critical and plus all the OKs.
So the enhanncement to my feature request is that the bar shows the Total Critical (Red), Warning (Yellow) & OK (Green) events and hovering the mouse on the bar displays this breakdown as well

thanks... Fred

Sorry, my fingers were moving faster than my eyes... Thought the OP was about the report not graph Explorer....

Ahhh... I see now where you meant Scott.
So another enhancement would be the Top Alert Producers Report as well in that it would be more meaningful if the number of each state was shown.
As OK/Normal is considered a Hard State it skews the report a bit
