My company is currently using Nagios XI as a trial and we have 25 days or so left. I have been asked to find out if Nagios XI would automatically revert to Nagios core after the trial period in case we do not receive budgetary approval for purchasing Nagios XI. My concern is that we would need to build a new Nagios Core platform and rebuild the monitoring that we created during the use of Nagios XI trial period.
If any one has ad expereince with this and can you shed some light on the question that would be great
NagiosXI puts specific objects into nagios core that would not be usable(but would still function). The GPL parts of the product have not and perhaps could not be altered to enforce our trial period, they will continue to work. Namely Nagios Core, NagiosQL(Core config manager), and pnp(graphing).
The XI interface locks you out of these features though. As there are direct paths to these applications I know that a handful of URLs for Nagios Core redirect you directly to NagiosXI, so there is lots of missing functionality.
As mmestnik alluded to, monitoring and notifications will continue to work, but administering it won't. Perhaps more usefully to you, XI allows you to export your configuration in the Nagios Core format, so you can easily transfer things over. It does not however automatically revert the way it sounds like you are describing.
