Nagios xi Host and service History are empty/ Graph Question

Post by jkimmel »

I am having 2 issues with xi-

Issue 1-
Host and Service State History are empty for all hosts and services. Is there something I need to enable? I can see this data in the event log. I have tried adjusting the time search period on hosts and services I know went hard down. I am familiar with Nagios (not xi) and this would be a great feature for my team to see soft downs.

Issue 2-
Built in graphs do not show gaps in data to reflect failed polling. I used nagios graph in the past and when a host or service was down I would see a gap in the data. This doesn't seem to be the case for the built in graphs in Nagiosxi. We have had outages but the bars across are consistent even when I zoom in. Just trying to understand if this is expected behavior.

Thanks!

Hi John,

Welcome to the Nagios Custome Forum! Glad to have you here.

Answers to your questions:

1. Let's verify that the check results are updating as expected. If you go to Home > Details > Host Status > Click on a link to host and then select the Force Immediate Check link from the Quick Actions column, does the information update in the GUI?

The state history report has options for the state type, soft, hard or both. Double-check that you are filtering on the right state types and time period.

2. That is expected behavior, please take a look at the following forum thread for a further explanation.

Do performance Graphs no Longer Gap?

Let me know if you have more questions or need clarification on anything.

Regards,
Benjamin

This is resolved. I updated to the latest version of Nagios xi. I think my blank service history issue was related to the URL, I was accessing via the shortname instead of the fqdn. Until the update I used to get an error about the URLs not matching. As for gapping, this was an oversight on my part. HTTP responses were still returned (502 error) which would graph, but your info is very helpful!

Thanks!
