Nagios xi agent Compatibility with Windows

Post by HBRMonitoring »

Hi,

The customer is planning to upgrade the 2008 Windows Server OS and 2012 Windows server OS to be upgraded 2016 Server OS (all service packs included).
I have NSClient++ version of 0.4.3.143.

Kindly let me know if the same NSClient version can be used for Windows server 2016 OS version post OS upgrade or should I also upgrade the NSclient version too? If yes, please share the compatible version number procedure.

If 2016 is not compatible, then what is the alternative to monitor these devices.

HI,

If you are planning to upgrade these servers, I would highly recommend switching over to NCPA if possible since this our agent and we fully support it. And we planning to add more functionality.

https://www.nagios.org/ncpa/

If possible, we recommend using version 0.4.4 of NSClient in the setup for the NSClient wizard but I don't believe there are any major issues with that version.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

So, I need to upgrade form 0.4.3 to 0.4.4 version for NSClient. Can we not go ahead with 0.4.3?

Can you pls share the link to upgrade and the procedure.

Alternate is to use NCPA agent.

HI,

The following forum post has detailed steps for upgrading NSCLient:

Upgrading NSClient++ from version 0.3.9 to 0.5.2.35

Be sure to make a backup of your current configuration file, before proceeding.

Thanks for the response.
My doubt is, can we still retain the agent version of the agent even after OS upgrade?

I think it will likely work just fine according to this:

https://www.nsclient.org/nsclient/

I also installed 0.4.3.143 on Server 2016 and it's working fine for both NRPE/check_nt.
