Hi all.
I have been slacking on the latest versions of Nagios xi - currently we got 1 offline and 1 online installation on version 5.6.14
The servers is running, RHEL7 on VMware.
Env1: 3000 hosts and 7000 services (online)
Env2: 1000 hosts and 2000 services (offline)
My question is: What's the recommended steps of versions I should upgrade to ?
Should I stop on 5.7 for a while before we go all the way to the latest (offline) version in 5.8?

Hi
You can take env2 to 5.8.6 which was released last week.
Make sure that the migration of the env2 environment is successful before tackling your Prod (env1).
If you run into any issues during the upgrade please let us know.
Does env2 have internet access for the upgrade process?
Thanks

Hi gsmith.
Actually is Env1 and Env2 both offline installations, but I have internet connection from Env2 so I can update plugins etc a easy way.
So the upgrade will dbe done with the offline version.
So I can go directly from 5.6.14 to 5.8.6 in one upgrade ?

Hi
Yes you should be able to upgrade in one step. While we have not tested upgrading all versions < 5.8.6 to 5.8.6,
the upgrade script is designed to be able to do this.
We encourage you to go through this process with Test servers. You should create an environment that reflects
your Prod environment as closely as possible. Then go through the upgrade. Our licensing agreement allows
you to do this.
should migrate your environments one at a time, making sure to verify the full functionality of the first environment
migrated before attempting to migrate the second environment.
That being said, I am a little unclear regarding your environments.
Do env1 and env2 share the same license key? Or do they have separate license keys?
Thanks

As always, a full backup of the 5.6.14 environment should be taken before attempting an upgrade, and youNagios xi License Policy
With every purchase we offer 3 separate activation of xi licenses. One for production, one for testing, and one for high availability. We always recommend upgrading on a test server first before making changes to the production server.

Thank you for the information, I will do the upgrade and let you know if there's any issues.
Env1 and Env2 are two seperate systems / licenses so will do one at a time.

Hello,
Could you please tell us what are the restrictions for the license under "Test/Lab Environment"? We have a customer with an activated Nagiosxi license, and we will migrate all hosts from Prod to Test, and once all hosts are migrated to Test, we will decommission the Prod. Then the Test will be converted to a Prod. We just want to confirm the restrictions for the Test license.
Thank you.

Hi,
That's a good question and the recommended process for migration. Each Nagios xi license is allowed 3 activations, production, test, and backup. However, only one system may be used for active monitoring.
You are allowed to use the test system to preview changes, but it should not be used for active monitoring and notifications.
If you have specific license questions feel free to reach to sales@nagios.com. Also, the following kb article has a few more details.
