SNMP Traps not showing up in Nagios xi

Post by rpeek »

Hello,

I am using CentOS 5.5
32bit
WMware Image of xi 2009R1.3G

Gnome is installed. No proxy, or SSL

I setup a Mobile Access SC-450 controller to send SNMP event traps to Nagiosxi. I setup Nagiosxi to receive traps for this equipment. I also added the MIBs to the Nagiosxi server, but the traps are not showing up in the Service Status page. It says "SNMP Traps Ok 15h 29m 54s 1/1 2011-01-27 17:36:15 Waiting for trap..." I know the server is receiving the traps because I installed iReasoning MIB Browser on the same server and it is receiving the traps. I am sure it’s probably a setting I missed in Nagiosxi, but I cannot find anything in all the documentation I have read thru. Any help would be deeply appreciated.

The first step would be to set up snmptt (the trap translator) to do logging and look at its results. I think that involves creating a directory under /var/log and possibly changing a log level in its config file, but it's been a while since I've done it.

Thanks for the response Tony.

I setup logging to view as the traps came in, and I’m almost embarrassed to say it was a DNS issue. CentOS took on the DNS name of the previous computer that had the IP, so the names didn’t match. As soon as I edited the DNS entry to match the name in Nagios, the traps knew where to go and all is working properly now.
