OK status when alert clearing not always working

Post by raymond.therrien »

Hello,

I've set up an alert that should send an OK email once the event has been cleared. Unfortunately this OK email doesn't always get sent. I've checked the CCM and the lack of an OK alert doesn't make sense here. Is there something I can missing?

I have uploaded screen shots of both the notification page, and the performance monitor graph for the service. As you can see it's not always reliable.

Thanks!

Hi Raymond,

You mentioned that the recovery email doesn't always get sent. I would check the configuration to make sure you have the correct contact time period and notification periods.

See: Nagios XI - Notification Problems

For more details on troubleshooting notifications

If that checks out, let's try sending a custom notification from this service to verify for certain that you can receive an email. From the service page, select the Advanced tab, and send a test email (custom notification).

After that, the Nagios log is very helpful since it contains the state change along with an entry for the notification handlers that were executed.

Please upload the nagios.log from that day along with a system profile and the exact name of the service. You'll find the archive logs in the following folder. They are named on the date they were put into the archive on a 24-hour schedule. If we want to review the data from 11-22, uploaded the 11-23 archive log.

Code: Select all

/usr/local/nagios/var/archives
Regards,
Benjamin

It's controlled by a host template. The service inherits the config from the host.

Hi Raymond,

Can you try to send the custom notification for the service, download a system profile, and attach it to the ticket along with the exact host/service name and I will check the mail log and configurations for you.

Thanks, Benajmin

Is there another way we can go about this? There is too much data in the profile about our systems. Maybe a specific log file in the profile data?

Hi @raymond.therrien,
Is there another way we can go about this?
I would recommend opening a support ticket as they are private between you and the support team at Nagios. To open a support ticket, go to:

https://support.nagios.com/tickets/

and reference this forum post.

The customer forum is best suited for general questions. We usually won't need sensitive information like IP addresses or contacts in the logs for troubleshooting your issue, feel free to redact this data.
