I'm saving the unique ID of my CMDB system in a custom variable of the host entry.
It would be very nice to have the custom variables in the host output of the REST API.
/nagiosxi/api/v1/objects/host
/nagiosxi/api/v1/objects/hoststatus
Like it is available in the old objectjson.cgi
/nagios/cgi-bin/objectjson.cgi?query=hostlist&details=true

This is going to be available in 5.6.0 when it is released under the config API endpoint
