<<3.0 UPDATE NOT SHOWING>>

Post by uhiadmin »

Linux Distribution and version?
1. Cent OS 6.2 / 64 Bit
2. Manual Install
3. Gnome installed

To Nagios XI Tech Support Specialist:

During the evening, I applied the latest 2011R3.0 update to the server because our Nagios XI is still on 2011R2.1 which was applied back in February. It does not appear after I applied it from the tar file. No message is shown for completion. Here is a copy and paste of the results.....Is this some kind of known bug to the 3.0 Update???

Unpack the update tarball you just downloaded (change the name to match your download):
tar xzf xi-2011r3.0.tar.gz
Change to the new nagiosxi subdirectory that was created when you unpacked the tarball:
cd /tmp/nagiosxi
Run the upgrade script:
./upgrade

*** Compile finished ***

If the main program and CGIs compiled without any errors, you
can continue with installing Nagios as follows (type 'make'
without any arguments for a list of all possible options):

  make install
     - This installs the main program, CGIs, and HTML files

  make install-init
     - This installs the init script in /etc/rc.d/init.d

  make install-commandmode
     - This installs and configures permissions on the
directory for holding the external command file

  make install-config
     - This installs *SAMPLE* config files in /usr/local/nagios/etc
You'll have to modify these sample files before you can
use Nagios. Read the HTML documentation for more info
on doing this. Pay particular attention to the docs on
object configuration files, as they determine what/how
       things get monitored!

  make install-webconf
     - This installs the Apache config file for the Nagios
       web interface

  make install-exfoliation
     - This installs the Exfoliation theme for the Nagios
       web interface

  make install-classicui
     - This installs the classic theme for the Nagios
       web interface

*** Support Notes *******************************************

before you post a question to one of the mailing lists.
Also make sure to include pertinent information that could
help others help you. This might include:

     - What version of Nagios you are using
     - What version of the plugins you are using
     - Relevant snippets from your config files
     - Relevant error messages from the Nagios log file

Were you able to finish the upgrade? Can you log in the web interface? Do you see the new version number in the lower left corner?

Hi,

Did you also do the last bit of any upgrade and login to the web interface as nagiosadmin and click the finish upgrade link.

I also often find i need to go to the admin section and click "check for updates" before the gui updates the version number and stops complaining about needing to be updated.

This is true, as by default the version checking only happens daily...

Re: <<High number of Hosts down>>

Linux Distribution and version?
1. Cent OS 6.2 / 64 Bit
2. Manual Install
3. Gnome installed
4. Nagios XI on R3.0 Update

To Nagios XI Tech Support Specialist:

I updated Nagios XI to R3.0. Recently, we have experiencing high number of hosts down that are false positives or not actually down. This started to occur either when I repaired the MySQL Database error or when I did the back up. Either way, I need to get this fix. These are the commands that applied when it occurred before the R3.0. I do not believe the update had done this. The command that I applied below started the problem:

After doing back up, I got this:
------------------------------------
Last login: Wed May 30 21:36:20 2012
[root@fldmon ~]# /usr/local/nagiosxi/scripts/backup_xi.sh
Backing up Core Config Manager (NagiosQL)...

mysqldump: Got error: 1045: Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: YES ) when trying to connect
Error backing up MySQL database 'nagios' - check the password in this script!

[root@fldmon ~]#

Scott told me try this:
--------------------------
Scott Wilkerson Reply back about the MySQL Error:

cd /usr/local/nagiosxi/scripts
./repairmysql.sh nagios

Then I got this:
------------------
Repair performed:

- recovering (with sort) MyISAM-table 'nagios_timeperiod_timeranges.MYI'
Data records: 215
- Fixing index 1
- Fixing index 2
Starting MySQL: [ OK ]
/usr/local/nagiosxi/scripts

So, I do not what would have caused this problem that we are getting the high number of hosts down. I will attach the config snapshot to see if you can spot the problem. Thanks you for your assistance.

Are you getting any output from the down hosts, like "network unreachable"?

Below shows you the info we get from the false down Node.
I have noticed that when we start getting a list of false nodes that MySQL goes anywhere from 50% to 99% CPU usage.
