Reporting Capability in Nagios xi

Post by atlantic »

Good afternoon,

My manager has asked to determine what (or if) kinds of reporting are available with Nagios xi.

We currently utilized Solarwinds, but would like to consolidate all of our network device monitoring/reporting in Nagios xi.
We are looking for bandwidth reporting.

If the capability does not exist today. Are there plans to include this in a future release of Nagios xi.

Thank you,

Mark Frew

There are a few different levels of this. First, obviously the current status of any service will show you the current metric. Second, any service or host check that returns properly formatted performance data will generate a trend graph, which you can view for different time periods. Third, there are various reports for things like most frequently problematic services, summaries over time, etc., found under the "Reports" tab in the xi interface. (Note: The available reports were dramatically reworked for the 2011 version of xi, so you will likely want to be looking at that.) I'm guessing that since you're posting here you already have access to an xi installation to see for yourself, but if not you can take a look at the VM from http://library.nagios.com/library/produ ... loads/main.

Good morning Tony,
I think I understand regarding the current reporting options. We are running Nagios xi 2011R1.1.

I believe what we are looking for is something like having the ability to set-up automated daily bandwidth/performance reporting (particularly on critical edge routers and switches).

I know I can drill done to put up performance graph on services defined in Nagios, but I think management is looking for an automated reporting tool which can email reports/graphs.

I hope this makes sense.

Thanks,

Mark

This makes sense, and you're not the first person to request this. If you can flesh out some of the details as to the things you'd like to see in an auto-generated report, that helps us on the development end of things to know what to produce for future releases.
